Harvey Jones was born in Johnstown, New York on June 23, 1805. He grew up on his father's farm. His father gave Harvey and his brothers each a piece of land to produce crops for profit. He became a successful businessman from a young age.
Loyal Jones, Harvey's brother, lived in Waukesha, Wisconsin. A Wisconsin man named Harrison Reed wanted to convert the Village of Winnebago Rapids into a settlement; But he needed a business partner. Loyal Jones knew his brother dreamed of buying land in the west and told him about Harrison Reed. Harvey Jones instructed his brother to go to the village and investigate the land. Upon hearing a good review, Harvey Jones agreed to be Reed's business partner.
He donated five acres of his land to start the Oak Hill Cemetery in 1848. According to an official City of Neenah report, Harvey Jones donated five acres of land for a cemetery. According to the minutes of a Town of Neenah meeting, Neenah bought four acres of land from Harvey Jones for $40.
On November 8th, 1849 he died at the age of 44 and was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died in his home from Typhoid fever.
